This residence on the golf course in Bodega Bay, California, was designed to serve as an executive retreat with a calming, zen focus. The project involved a complete remodel of the interior, from studs to silverware, as well as significant exterior upgrades, including a refurbished antique entry door and a new deck overlooking the fairway, and ocean beyond.

Custom art, millwork and furniture design were included throughout the project. The metal, ceramic tile and glass coffee table was created to complement the soothing color scheme. The kitchen was reconfigured to allow sunset views over the golf course from the new corner sink. New finishes included custom cabinetry of vertical grain Douglas Fir, granite countertops, slate flooring, and stainless steel appliances. In the master bedroom, standard-issue bi-pass closet doors were replaced with new back-lit shoji screens to further add to the calm atmosphere.

A new custom front door opens onto the entry which features a wool and silk Tufenkian rug and hand-painted silk light fixture.

The elevated dining room looks out over the living area and features a custom bamboo art piece that incorporates lighting.

The sunken living room features a Rais stove and a warm combination of materials and textures, including a custom coffee table designed by local metal and glass artist, Gordon Heuther.

The kitchen, which is open to the dining room, makes the most of the small footprint, while still providing all the necessities. The butcher block island is on wheels for the greatest flexibility. The sink area looks out over the deck and onto the golf course.
